Permitted p x v values
For iglide® T500 bushings with 0.03937 wall thickness in dry operation against a steel shaft, at 68° F, installed in a steel housing.
iglide® T500 is primarily characterized by the combination of high temperature resistance with compressive strength and high chemical resistance.
Compressive Strength
The graph shows how the iglide® T500 plastic bushing elastically deform under loads when they stand.
On the previous page, the graph shows the maximum p x v values at room temperature. In this case, the compressive strength of iglide® T500 approximates that of steel.
The graph below shows the extreme compressive strength of iglide® T500 even at very high temperatures. Even at the maximum long-term application temperature of 482° F, the iglide® T500 plastic bushing still tolerate a surface pressure of about 4350 psi.
iglide® T500 is designed for higher speeds than other iglide® bushings due to its high temperature resistance and good heat conductivity. This is already clear from the p x v values of maximum 37600 psi x fpm.
At the speeds mentioned in the table, only the minimum radial loads are allowed to act on the bushings. The specified values show the speed at which due to friction an increase in temperature up to the long-term permitted value can occur.
fpm | Rotating | Oscillating | Linear |
---|---|---|---|
Constant | 295 | 216 | 984 |
Short-term | 689 | 492 | 1,968 |
Temperatures
The iglide® T500 takes the top position also with regard to temperature resistance. With a permitted long-term application temperature of 482° F, the iglide® T500 tolerates even 600° F on a short term.
Like in all thermoplastics, the compressive strength decreases in iglide® T500 as well with rising temperature. Remarkably, however, the wear also significantly drops at the same time within the observed temperature range of 73.4° F to 302° F.
In the most unfavorable cases, a relaxation of the bushings can already occur at temperatures of more than 338° F. This leads to the loosening of the bushing in the housing after the re-cooling. For this reason, the firm seating of the bushing in the housing should be checked in tests at temperatures above 338° F. Steps should be taken if necessary to mechanically secure the bushing. Please contact us if there is any query about the application of the bushing.
iglide® T500 | Application Temperature |
---|---|
Lower | -148°F |
Upper, long-term | +482°F |
Upper, short-term | +599°F |

Friction and wear
Like the wear resistance, the coefficient of friction alters with increasing load. The coefficient of friction increases with rising speed, whereas an increasing load acts inversely. The coefficient of friction drops. This illustrates the excellent suitability of iglide® T500 bushings with high loads.
Friction and wear also depend to a high degree on the reverse partner. Extremely smooth shafts enhance the coefficient of friction of the bushing. Ideal are smoothed surfaces with an average surface finish of Ra of 24 to 32 rms.

Shaft materials
The graphs show results of testing different shaft materials with plastic bushings made of iglide® T500. For low loads in the rotating application, the coefficients of wear are ideal with 303 Stainless and HR Carbon Steel shafts. The bushing wear however rises with these two shaft materials above a load of 290 psi , and so hard-chromed or Cold Rolled Steel shafts are better for a higher load range. Similar coefficients of wear exist for cold rolled steel and 303 stainless steel shafts in the pivoting application with low loads. The wear is somewhat higher than in rotating application.
Please contact us in case the shaft material scheduled by you is not included in this list.
iglide® T500 plastic bushings are standard bushings for shafts with h-tolerance (recommended minimum h9).
After the installation in a housing bore with H7 tolerance, the inner diameter of the bushing automatically adjusts to F10 tolerance.

iglide® T500 plastic bushings have almost universal chemical resistance.
They are affected only by concentrated nitric acid and sulfuric acid with an acid content of above 65%. The chemicals list given at the end of this catalog gives detailed information over this.
The moisture absorption of iglide® T500 plastic bushings is extremely low. In standard climatic conditions, it lies below 0.1 Wt-%. Thus the iglide® T500 plastic bushings can be even mounted for underwater applications without any adaptation to the installation conditions. The maximum water absorption is 0.5 Wt-%.

Radioactive rays
iglide® T500 bushings are radiation resistant up to a radioactive intensity of 1 x 105 Gy. iglide® T500 is the radiation-resistant material in the iglide® product range. iglide® T500 is extremely resistant to strong gamma rays and withstands a radiation dose of 1,000 Mrad without any perceptible loss of any of its properties. The material also overcomes an alpha or beta radiation of 10,000 Mrad virtually unscathed.
UV resistant
The excellent material features of the iglide® T500 do not alter under UV radiation and other climatic influences.
Vacuum
The iglide® T500 plastic bushings can also be used almost unrestrictedly in vacuum. An evaporation takes place only to a minor degree.
Plastic bushings made of iglide® T500 are electrically conductive.
