Developing a robust, reliable and low-maintenance mechanism for cleaning and testing underwater risers and pipelines was the challenge. In the past, applications in this extreme environment were very difficult and expensive for operators of oil and gas factories. In doing so, conventional remote-controlled vehicles or plungers were subject to appropriate examinations.
A device with X-, Y- and Z-axis, in which a 360° rotatable carriage collects high-quality data, offers an alternative here. It uses different seawater-resistant igus® parts that allow precise and controlled movement. The harsh environmental conditions do not affect the operation in any way. In addition to a variety of iglide® plain bearings and drylin® linear guides, an e-chain® is also used, which performs a 360° rotary movement.
