The e-skin flat cable guidance system, in combination with the CFCLEAN chainflex solution, represents a logical further development of the commercially available PTFE trackless cables for cable guidance in flat panel display (FPD) and semiconductor production, and in the production of OLEDs as well as in medical technology. The strengths of the PTFE trackless cables have been improved and the disadvantages eliminated. The undefined is the result of this further development work.

Since 2003, in new developments of cleanroom products, igus® has been co-operating with the Stuttgart Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology and Automation (IPA). The latest achievement of this collaboration: a cleanroom laboratory in Cologne.

Specialising in the development and manufacture of components for automation technology and a leader in the field of rotary indexing tables, the company Weiss GmbH wanted to find a cable lead-through to the middle of a tool whereby the lead-through could hold two sensor cables and two hoses, each with a diameter of four millimetres. The solution: the  flat cable guidance system e-skin flat from igus. Service life over 57 million double strokes.
