60-year veteran provider of material-handling systems uses Energy Chain and Chainflex with results that trickle straight down to its customers

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – November 29, 2007 – Igus® Inc., the leading developer of Energy Chain Systems®, Chainflex® continuous-flex cables and iglide® plastic bearings, today announced that Diamond Phoenix, a leader in the design, manufacturing, integration and installation of innovative material-handling systems, uses Energy Chain® cable carriers and Chainflex cables. The company employs igus’ E2 mini and E2 medium Energy Chains to guide, protect and extend the service life of Chainflex cables, including CF11, CF27 and CF130, on the majority of its material-handling machines.

As a 60-year veteran in the material-handling industry, Diamond Phoenix offers system and design integration, advanced warehouse software and a full suite of material-handling equipment from conveyer systems to inserters/extractors to vertical and horizontal carousels.

The company, which has been using igus products for more than a decade, is impressed with the extended service life and longer unsupported lengths delivered by the E2 mini, as a result of its larger side links and double stop-dog design. Diamond Phoenix also uses interior separators, designed to organize a large amount of cables housed in one Energy Chain.

“The Energy Chain does an excellent job of protecting the cables on our machines,” said Tim Peterson, project engineer for Diamond Phoenix. “And because of the interior separators, the cables do not chafe or rub together, which prevents damage.”

Both the E2 mini and E2 medium are easy to install and are equipped with snap-open crossbars for fast, easy cable installation and repair. With travel lengths up to 40 feet, this feature saves time for Diamond Phoenix.

For larger jobs, Diamond Phoenix takes advantage of ReadyChain—a preassembled cable carrier system complete with Chainflex cables, Energy Chains and all accessories such as connectors and mounting brackets. This out-of-the-box, plug-and-play solution offers benefits that trickle straight down to Diamond Phoenix’s customers.

“Igus produces custom cable harnesses for us in a timely manner,” continued Peterson. “This service is greatly appreciated, as it helps us trim our production costs. With ReadyChain, we can deliver to our customers faster. As an OEM, that is crucial.”

But time is not the only thing the company saves by using igus products. Unnecessary downtime and expenses also have been eliminated. Prior to becoming an igus customer, cables that were not specifically designed for high-flex applications were being used. As a result, some of the cables were breaking, corkscrewing and failing. With Chainflex cables, this issue has been eliminated.

The E2 mini and E2 medium, like all Energy Chains from igus, are maintenance-free, dirt- and dust-resistant and protect cables from being damaged by various debris. Chainflex cables are the perfect partner for Energy Chain Systems and are available in more than 700 sizes and styles.
